About The Kichwa Collection
Carefully hand picked and ethically sourced through Direct Trade from artisans in the Ecuadorian Andes from the Indigenous towns of Otavalo and Peguche. Each item is handmade using traditional techniques and patterns. Each item contributes to creating sustainable livelihoods for these talented artisans.
What is Direct Trade?
We source directly from the makers and pay a fair price set by the artisans, which means there is no middleman and no certification fees to pay. Fair Trade certifications, while beneficial for larger producers, price small producers out of the market as they are not able to pay the high ongoing fees. In many cases, small producers cannot sustain their livelihoods in competition with large producers and big brands in a market that is not very fair at all.
